“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13)
When things are going smoothly in our lives, sometimes there is this little anxious feeling that it’s too good to be true! When our health is good, there’s money in the bank, the children are behaving, our spouses are attentive, the boss praises our ideas, and the dog stays out of mischief, we wonder “How long will this last?” Instead of saying “Thank you Jesus”, we are fearful of the positive.
Interestingly, humans can be fearful of both the positive and the negative. Seems odd, doesn’t it? In the positive times, we worry, and in the negative times, we despair. But God desires that we are balanced and stable in Him. That is why you cannot let go of your hope in God. Hope keeps you grounded, giving you a Christ-centered perspective on life. Without hope, I believe we would be men and women most miserable.
Let us not be ignorant of the facts of life in Christ. There is nothing that He cannot bring you through, not even death! Let your hope cause you to see things differently and to respond to situations differently. No matter what you may face today, remember that the God that you hope in is real. He is the anchor for your life!
Declaration: “I will not despair as those who have no hope! I am in Christ Jesus and my expectation in Him is secure!”
