“Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
John 13:34-35 NLT
The soft music plays, the lights are dimmed, as the camera focuses on a young girl sitting on a hospital bed, about to take her last breath. Her mother holds her hands gently and whispers, “I have something to tell you, the truth is…” and, a commercial! That’s how they get you—soap operas that is. These shows are designed in such a way to keep you coming back for more, more drama, more strife, more contention.
The actors on TV are paid to mimic real life, usually in an exaggerated way. But, we as disciples of Christ should never try to live in a way that is soap-opera worthy! We should not gossip about our brothers and sisters, stab them in the back or seek our good at the expense of everyone else. God’s instruction to us is very simple: Love. Love Him, love ourselves and love others, in and out of church. That’s how the world will know we belong to Jesus, by the way we treat others.
When you have a challenge to love others (including other church members) ask the Holy Spirit to love through you. He will teach you how to show love in ways that you would not have thought of. It isn’t always easy to love, but it’s possible because God is love! Would you share God’s love today, and encourage another in the Lord? Let’s make Jesus proud!
