“ …Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.”
James 4:12 NLT
By Guest Author: Peter Felix
The story is told of a wealthy man who had two sons. The younger son asked the father for his inheritance and left home and squandered it. He realised his mistake and returned to his father and asked for forgiveness. His father accepted him with open arms. The elder son became angry because he was there all the time and never received anything of the father, but he never received, because he never asked.
We don’t have what we want because we don’t ask God for it! In the Sermon on the mount, Jesus exhorted: “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.” Note the first letter of those three verbs spell ASK! God wants us to ask of Him what we desire – it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom.
Of course, we would not go to the next extreme where our entire prayer is only making requests – that’s unbalanced prayer. But our Saviour is encouraging us today to ask of Him. Jesus said – ask so that your joy may be full. My friend, let your faith be strengthened today as you pray, so that you will have what you want, according to His will, because you asked Him for it.
