Your Word for This Day: “Power to Overcome”

My victory

“Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:5

To overcome. To conquer. To be victorious. To win!

Not much else tastes as sweet as triumph. To know that you have risen above an obstacle and have overcome it—you were not defeated, but you defeated it—is powerful.

You, a modern-day David, carrying the head of your own Goliath.

God says that this reality, the position of victory, is available to all who believe in His Son Jesus Christ. Can we say, “Wow”?!

Our faith in Jesus Christ causes us to overcome. Not just a health challenge or a financial issue, but the world.

What is it exactly to “overcome the world”? Here, “world” encompasses that which is physical, that which is fleeting.  All that we experience with our five senses. Momentary pleasures, temporary treasures, limited resources and short-lived gain.

You have the Power to overcome.

It’s not because of what you have done. It’s because you believe. You believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died to save you from your sin, that He rose triumphantly from the dead and that He defeated the enemy of your soul. You believe!

The Holy Spirit fuels our faith and empowers us to walk out each day of our lives in victory, with eternity before us. You do not have to live as a bundle of nerves, wondering what will happen to you and if you will make it through.

By faith you overcome. In Christ, you win!
