“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.” Philippians 4:1
In North America, October is designated as Pastor’s Appreciation month. It is the time when congregations recognize the hard work that Pastors, Leaders and Ministers of the Gospel do to help build the body of Christ. They are appreciated for their teaching, counselling, and overall care of God’s people.
God has given His church Spirit-filled and Spirit-led leaders who will lead us according to His word and His heart. As God’s children we honour Him by honouring those whom He has chosen to lead us.
We are to bring joy to our leaders and not sorrow. The way we do this is by staying true to the Lord. When we remain submitted to God, we will do what His word says and obey and honour our spiritual leaders.
Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.”
We don’t have to wait until October to say thank you to our leaders. As we daily choose to obey, faithfully serve and put into practice that which they have taught us, we will be living lives that bring glory to God and express our gratitude to leaders for watching over our souls.
One of the ways we experience joy is by bringing joy to others. Let’s be joy-filled disciples and celebrate our leaders today!
