“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23 NLT
There was a man whose son was possessed by an evil spirit for many years and this spirit caused him to do things to hurt himself. One day, the father brought his son to Jesus to be healed, and an interesting thing happened. Let’s read the account…
“So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.”
Right in front of Jesus, the boy got worse! The spirit caused the child to go into a violent seizure.
When Jesus asked the father how long this was happening, the Father replied… “Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”
The same father, who thought that Jesus could help His son, now wasn’t so sure. And, if we are honest with ourselves, sometimes this happens to us. We believe that Jesus will fix/heal/change something in our lives, and so we bring it to Him in prayer. But then, it acts up! The situation gets worse, the issue doesn’t go away, the problem isn’t solved. And we may begin to wonder “If He can”.
I am here to encourage you today, keep believing. God’s power is limitless and He is willing and able to help you as you come to him. Believe Him. That young boy was delivered from the evil spirit and given another chance to live!
Here it is, from our Lord’s mouth straight to you today: All things are possible if a person believes. “Yes, Jesus can!”
