“…And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said,‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35
Jesus said it. And, that settles it. It is more blessed to give than to receive.
It brings great joy when we are able to make a difference in someone else’s life by giving of our time, our talent and our treasures.
Jesus’ whole life demonstrated this principle of giving. He came to the earth to give, not to receive. He came to earth to serve, not to be served. He came to the earth to bring to us eternal life, not to take life from us. As an Abundant Giver, Jesus modeled for us the lifestyle of the Abundant life.
Just remember how you felt when you received something that you really needed, at the right time. Think of the joy that it brought to your heart to know that your were thought of, remembered, supported and encouraged.
Now, think of what happens when you give to someone. In giving, there is great joy involved. The recipient experiences joy in receiving the gift, the giver experiences joy at seeing the other person’s joy and knowing that God has used him or her to fill a need, and God has joy because He sees His children living as true brothers and sisters.
So if it is blessed to receive, it is “more blessed” to give.
When we give with the right motives, not to be seen of men, or to be thought well of, we are exercising our faith in God and walking out His word. And there is great reward in obeying His word!
My friend, giving is more than just a thing we do at Christmas… It is a year round lifestyle. Powerful things happen when we give!
As you go through your day, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to show you ways to give. Stretch yourself, give generously and cheerfully. These are the words of Jesus – and His words are what we live by.
Have a great weekend!
