“I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:27 NLT
It’s time to get moving!
Physical exercise is important to developing and maintaining a healthy self. And, with a healthy self, we are able to give our best to the life that God has created for us and get the best out of it.
Taking good care of yourself is an investment into your life. When we exercise, eat a balanced diet, rest properly and relax when needed, we are making investments that yield high dividends.
We can find time for everything and everyone else, but we usually don’t schedule time in for physical activity – for many of us, it’s not a priority. But, if you don’t treat you as a priority, what message are you sending to others?
The way we live our lives is the message that we preach.
“I’m not a preacher”, you may say. Oh, but yes you are. We are all preachers. We preach a message with our lifestyles. Let’s take a moment to review the messages that we are sharing.
As Paul tells us in today’s verse, disciplining and training our bodies is important. In Christ, we verbally declare that we have the best type of life – spiritually, emotionally and physically, and that’s only really true in us when what we do, reflects what we say.
So, let’s get moving…
Even if you can’t make it to the gym, there are things that you can do at home or at work, such as :
- Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
- Going for a walk at lunch time.
- Getting off the bus one stop earlier and walking the rest of the way home.
- Doing a workout video on YouTube – find a video that you enjoy with good music.
- Playing music at home and dancing to it.
- Walking up and down your stairs at home.
No excuses! You’re body is the temple of God and He dwells in it. Treat it well and give it your best! You can do it!!
Have a fantastic day!
