Your Word for This Day: “Let it Go…”

“Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

Love (1)

There are many things that we can do to become emotionally strong. As mentioned in previous posts, practicing self-awareness, learning to regulate our emotions, developing an optimistic view of life and choosing to enjoy each day, no matter what, are all important investments that we can make in our lives.

If we desire to love God with all of our souls, and experience the best of life – there’s one more thing that we must learn to do!

We must forgive.

Yes, it’s difficult to do. You don’t feel that you should. You have been betrayed, disappointed and hurt. The pain is real. But, my friend, if you don’t forgive, the consequence is worse- it’s emotional suicide.

You see, unforgiveness is like poison. And as it has been said, “Harboring unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

Instead of harboring hatred towards someone, and using your energy to feed a negative emotional state – release it. Let it go. Let them go. Don’t let someone live in your mind rent-free!
If we intend to live our best life, we must learn to forgive and do it quickly. Forgiveness is a powerful thing! It fights against bitterness and all of its family members. Remember, forgiveness is really for you – it releases YOUR pent up negative emotions and frees YOU to live to the fullest again.

Instead, of hatred, let love be the rule. Love covers a multitude of sins – as we love others in spite of their faults, we are really displaying the grace that we have received from God, who loved us in spite of our faults and demonstrated it on the cross.

If you can’t love the person who has hurt you yet, and that does take time, love yourself enough not to poison yourself with unforgiveness. There’s is so much of life waiting for you! Things to discover, places to explore, dreams to be fulfilled and people to help. Release… and let go.

You can do it – the power is within you!

To your emotional health!

What a release it is to finally forgive those who have caused you offence. It is kind of like going to the dentist to remove an infected tooth. You may not look forward to the procedure, but once you grin it and bear it, when that burden of pain is gone; you would wish that you had done it sooner. God knew how bitterness takes in us when we are wronged; that is why He has called us to forgive. He is the Master Physician; better follow what the doctor prescribes.
