Your Word for This Day: “Sing a New Song”

Thursday, May 26, 2016

“Praise the LordSing to the Lord a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.” Psalm 149:1-2

I have a fond childhood memory of sitting in a mass at my elementary school, singing this song:

Sing a new song unto the Lord, let the song be sung from mountain high, sing a new song unto the Lord, Allelulia.

Yahweh’s people dance for joy, O come before the Lord and play for Him on glad tambourines and let your praise be known.

Rise O children from your sleep, your Saviour now has come, He has turned your sorrow to joy and filled your soul with song.

Glad my soul for I have seen the glory of the Lord, The trumpet sounds the dead shall be raised, I know my Saviour lives.

As I have grown up, the words of this song have taken on even greater meaning. If we reflect on these lyrics we can see a brief exhortation on what the Lord has done for us! Just think of how in your life, and the lives of your friends and family, God has turned sorrow to joy and filled our souls with songs of rejoicing!

We are encouraged from the Word of God today to sing a song of praise to the Lord, and specifically – a new song.

The mercies of the Lord are new towards us today. We have been blessed with a new day of life, bursting with new possibilities and new opportunities.

So today, God deserves a new song.  Yesterday’s praise is not enough for today. Let’s offer something to God that is fresh and full of life! Let’s make melody to Him in our hearts, declaring our thanks and praise to a God who is oh so good!

Come on, let’s try it!

Here’s today’s praise prompt: What are you thanking God for today? Try to declare your praise in a song. Don’t worry, the words don’t have to rhyme, nor does the melody have to be difficult. This song is between you and your Maker. Just tell the Lord how you feel and let the pulse of your heart begin the rhythm in your soul! Enjoy!

For His Praise!
