“Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all.” 1 Chronicles 29:10-11
Standing in the assembly of the people, David lifted up his voice and began to praise God. “Yours O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty…” David lavished upon God praises from a grateful heart.
God had been so good to David and this king was not embarrassed nor intimidated to give God praise publicly. Just standing in the palace, as the leader of God’s people, and receiving offerings to build the Temple was evidence of God’s greatness and faithfulness in David’s life, and to His people Israel.
You see, David was not born with the proverbial “silver spoon” in his mouth. He did not have an easy road in life. Not at all.
Take a walk down memory lane with me for just a moment. Born the youngest son of Jesse, David was left to shepherd his father’s sheep on the dangerous hills of Bethlehem. He was excluded from family gatherings and ridiculed and scorned by his siblings. He was sent to soothe a king tormented by evil spirits, then cheated and set up to die by that same king. He ran for his life for 13 years, hid in caves and pretended to be mentally unstable when his enemies caught him. And, the story continues…
In all of this David saw the hand of God at work. God walked with David through every step of his journey. He was with Him through the ups and downs and now, David was in the place of promise, the place of possession and the place of provision. And he couldn’t help but to brag on the Lord! He led Israel in great praise to a God whose words and faithfulness had been proven.
What’s your story?
Where have you and God been together? What things have you come through to get to where you are today?
If you were to look at the chapters of your own book, I’m sure you would see the greatness of God – the victories, the provisions, the seemingly-last-minute rescues! The promotions, the favour, the divine connections! God is so great. And now look at what He’s brought you to… It’s bigger than you know and greater than you can imagine.
Let’s really ascribe to God the praises that He so deserves today. As one songwriter put it, “An incredible God deserves incredible praise” (enjoy the song here.)
Our God is great and greatly to be praised!
