“Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word].” Hebrews 10:23
This week, my cousin broke his bike. This was not an ordinary bike that you use for a leisurely ride in the park… this was a BMX bike that is used for competitive riding and stunts.
My aunt, surprised that this expensive bike was in such a state (and very relieved that her son was in one piece) began to comment on the damage and he made a comment that stuck with me since then. He looked at her and with excitement in his eyes said, “It’s okay mom, this is the life we’ve chosen.”
This is the life we’ve chosen.
What a statement. My cousin chose to enter into competitive riding because he loves doing it, and he understood that with that choice comes along other things – lots of training, bumps and bruises and occasionally, broken bikes. But, this doesn’t stop him – he’s faithful to his choice. His love keeps him hanging on.
God has called us, wooed us and drawn us to Himself. He has chosen us to be part of His family, to become joint-heirs with His Son. We responded by saying “yes”. We made the decision to live for Him by being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
And, all goes well, until things in life start to get a little complicated… a little uncomfortable… a little messy… relationships and longtime habits start to be broken… people stop inviting us to parties… friends become enemies overnight… we lose our jobs… and many time we begin to waver in our faith.
In the midst of the challenges of life we have opportunities to develop our faithfulness to our God and display our commitment to live a life that pleases Him.
“This is the life I have chosen to live and I will be faithful to my God.”
May this be our refrain as we navigate the seasons of our lives.
My prayer for today is that as children of God we would work with the Holy Spirit to live out our faithfulness to God each moment that we are alive. As we are daily presented with opportunities to develop faithfulness, may we hold fast our confession of our hope without wavering knowing that He who has promised is reliable, trustworthy and faithful to His word. May we choose to honour God’s love for us and express our love to Him by being faithful. No compromising, no excuses, no explanations, just obedience. It all comes down to a choice.
Have a great weekend!
