“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
There are people that I know that don’t vote. They choose not to exercise their civic privilege to cast a ballot to choose the next leader of their city, region or nation. One of the main reasons that people don’t vote is that they think that their “1” vote doesn’t count. They believe that what they do doesn’t matter.
But, it does. It may be true that your “1” vote may not be THE deciding factor of whether or not a candidate is elected, but imagine if other people thought that their vote wasn’t important either. A whole region could lose out on letting their voice be heard because each individual person thought that what he or she did, didn’t matter.
My friend, what you say matters, what you think matters and what you do matters!
And, this is more than just about voting… This is for life in general. The Bible instructs us not only on what to speak, what to think, but also on what to do.
Let’s read today’s instructions in another translation…“This is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
This is what the Lord requires from His people:
- That we would know and do what is right (even when the right thing is not popular or is uncomfortable to do).
- That we would have a heart for people and act in ways that are kind, just, and faithful (this includes going the extra mile and even loving our enemies).
- That we would not think more highly of ourselves that we ought to, that we would submit to God and obey His will (loving yourself is great, worshipping yourself is not!).
It is through our actions that we demonstrate that we are truly children of God, walking in agreement with His word. We do things differently, we love greatly, we serve even when it’s not stylish.
As we go about our day today, let us be intentional to choose, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to do the right things. Let us challenge ourselves to really walk as royal heirs of God. And, let us pray that that through our witness, men and women would come to know that Jesus Christ is Lord!
What you do matters!
(P.S. Regardless of what your political persuasion is… voting is an opportunity to partner with God to advance His agenda on the earth by voting for the candidate that you believe that He is leading you to. Remember, Your vote matters!)
