Your Word for This Day: “Living Free of the Past”

Monday, August 15, 2016

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

Many times we are not willing to leave our comfort zone.  But that is exactly what we have to do if we are to move on with God.  Letting go of the past, whether it was good or bad, is never easy but it is something that we must do to access all that God has in store for us. Every day with Jesus must be deeper and better than the day before.

We must never get to the place where we think that we have arrived or have embraced all of the truth and revelations of God.  There will always be something new to learn and understand in God’s Word. As we let go of that which we have already attained or received from God and press on for more of Him, we will daily learn new truths in His Word and new aspects of His character.

Paul spoke of wanting to know God even after he confessed of having revelations that he could not communicate. Paul understood that there were levels of knowing God. We, too, must appreciate this fact and allow it to inspire us to continually press towards the mark of the prize of the high calling. God wants you to know Him more.  He can be known through all His creation, through the study of His Word and through the different ways He chooses to reveal Himself.

Today be determined to press through all hindrances and obstacles that will try to stop you from knowing God in His fullness.  There is so much more to attain.  Go for it.  You will find Him as you search for Him with all your heart.

Lord, today I pray that You would give me the ability to seek You with all my heart.  May You become so real and important to me that I will willingly pay the price to know You more. In Jesus’ name I pray.   Amen.
