Your Word for This Day: “Living With Humility”

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”  James 4:10

When we come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and study His life as He walked on the earth we are truly amazed at His level of humility. In Philippians 2:5-7 (AMP) we read,

Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being.

What a display of humility!  Not only did Jesus give up His divine position but when He came to earth He allowed himself to be crucified, a type of execution administered by the Romans that was reserved for the lowest and most vile criminal.

Pride was not found in Jesus.  He humbled Himself to death, even death on a cross.

Can you imagine, the King of Glory, hanging on a tree?  Let Jesus be our example of humility. Do not compare your humility to anyone else on the earth.  Compare it to Jesus’.  I guarantee you, the results will cause you to stop and think and hopefully change your outlook.

Humility leads to promotion.  Jesus was exalted to a position of power and authority because He stooped so low.  We, too, will be lifted to our high place in God if we humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord.  Not in the sight of other human beings to impress them, but in the sight of the Lord.  You see, God is the only One who can read the hearts of men.  To the people around us, we may appear very humble but God may hold a completely different opinion.

Therefore, we must humble ourselves in His sight.  He has redeemed you.  He has made a way for you to access His life, His mind and His character.  Today, determine in your heart to humble yourself in the sight of God.  The rewards will be amazing.

Lord, you proved Your humility, not only by what You said but by what You did.  Help me to do the same today, Lord.  Teach me by Your Spirit how to lay down my life like You did.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
