“One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” Psalm 27:4
This is our final destination, the house of the Lord. The place where His glory is revealed without interruption or distortion. The beauty of His majesty is displayed and enjoyed by those who love Him.
The house of the Lord refers to the presence of the Lord. We are encouraged by the Lord to seek His face for that is what helps us to live victoriously.
However, there is another dimension of the house of the Lord and that is here on earth: the place that we go to worship is also called the house of the Lord. In David’s time it was the tabernacle.
“I was glad when they said to me; Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1). David’s joy was revealed in these words. He wanted to be in the place that was set apart to worship the only true and living God. Every believer should feel the same way.
We must be totally consumed with being in the presence of God. It must be our passion and something that we treasure most in our lives. In His presence we receive everything we need to navigate the journey of life.
We must live in Christ, and Christ must live in us.
Dwelling in the house of the Lord whether physically or spiritually speaks of complete safety and security – completeness and fulfillment, joy and peace. This is the abundant life that Jesus died for so that we could live it.
Above and apart from all that the Shepherd would do for us, the best thing is to be with Him, dwelling daily in His presence. We do not want to be away or apart from Him. We want to be right where He is.
Let us join with the Psalmist and declare that the house of the Lord is where we want to dwell both now and forever more.
I choose to make the presence of God my constant dwelling place. I am surrounded by His divine presence always.
