“ Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. I have given them your word…” John 17: 13-14a
In the days prior to the crucifixion, we read that Jesus prayed for us. As He prepared Himself to endure the betrayal and the crucifixion, He was carrying us in His heart. He was ready to give Himself as an offering to the Father, to pay the debt for our sin, and we were on His mind. This is truly amazing love!
Jesus prayed for us. He prayed to the Father on our behalf, that as we would believe on Him, we would live a life of oneness with Him. He prayed that as we live in this world, we would not let the evil in this world get in us. We would be in the world, but not of the world. He prayed that we would be filled with His joy. That we would be so filled with His life that joy would saturate our being.
The Joy of Jesus. So rich and so full. So complete and so inspiring. The joy of the Lord is your strength. And, this joy is here and it is available to you.
In this time of reflection, let us look at what Calvary really means to us. Christ suffered so that we can have joy. Yes, we will have challenges and yes, we will have difficulties—we will face much persecution for the gospel, but we can have joy because Jesus is worth it. A life live in Christ is worth it.
