Your Word for This Day: “The True Type of Wisdom”

Thursday, May 11, 2017

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.” James 3:13

As we continue our study into wisdom, we are learning that living and maxing out  the ABUNDANT LIFE that God has provided for each one of us is only possible as we walk wisely, yielding to and depending on the precious Holy Spirit who is the SPIRIT OF WISDOM.

First, we must desire wisdom, and second, we must seek for wisdom. But, what type of wisdom do we want to have?
Did you know that according to the word of God there are 2 types of wisdom? Yes, there is EARTHLY wisdom and HEAVENLY Wisdom.

Think of this, have you ever gone to a friend to ask advice for a situation that you were facing, and after implementing the “wisdom” that they gave you, things were worse off than before? It is very possible that you did receive wisdom – earthly wisdom – and that did not help you.

Many times the wisdom we operate with is wisdom from the earth, and not wisdom from above. But, how do we know the difference?
Let’s turn to the Word for the answer. James 3:14-16 tells us:
But if you harbor (1) bitter envy and (2) selfish ambitions in your hearts do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil, for where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice,

Wisdom from the earth is of the devil. It is based on lies and it places the worship of man at the center of it. At its core, there is bitter envy and selfish ambitions. It seeks to promote oneself, even at the expense of hurting and deceiving others. It is sensual, meaning that this wisdom’s desire is to make us feel good at all times, even if it is not beneficial or honoring to God. Earthly wisdom gives birth to disorder and evil practices which are against the very heart of our Heavenly Father and the character of His true children.

My friend, yes, we desire wisdom and yes, we will seek after it – but let us make sure that we are not running after the earthly wisdom which leads to destruction and confusion. We want the true type of wisdom.

Have you ever received earthy wisdom? How did it affect you and your situation? What could you have done differently in the situation?
