Your Word for This Day: “Benefits of Wisdom: Long Life”

Friday, May 19, 2017

“If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:4-5

It really is amazing, isn’t it? When we think about the great benefits that wisdom brings to our lives, we can see why in God’s Word we are instructed to go after wisdom, to search for her as for a hidden treasure. A life filled with the wisdom of God is a life that is filled with the knowledge of God. Wise people know how to access and walk in His abundance.

Wisdom protects, guards, promotes, and honors all who seek after it and crowns them with grace and glory. Today, we look at the fifth benefit: Wisdom can cause you to live long!

5. Wisdom Offers you Long Life.

Proverbs 3: 16, 18 says: “She [Wisdom] offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying.”

Who doesn’t want to live a long and satisfying life? I mean, everyone in their own way is looking for a way to extend their days on earth and to improve their quality of life as they do so. Whether it’s through exercise, eating right, taking supplements, or even undergoing cosmetic procedures… it is safe to assume that the majority of people do not want to die now.

Well, the Word of God tells us that through wisdom we can learn to live a long life on the earth and walk in delightful paths that are satisfying. Wisdom helps us to be able to discern between right and wrong and to take the right course of action in any given situation. Wisdom teaches us how to look at the bigger picture and to live in accordance with godly principles which are more focused on the long term impact, rather than just on a momentary satisfaction. I believe that wisdom helps us to look beyond the “here and now” so that we can make decisions that will bring us in and keep us on right paths.

Wisdom is interested in our future – not just in living it, but how we will be living it. We are encouraged today to pursue and ask for the Wisdom of God so that we will be prepared and equipped to fulfill all of our days on the earth – in purpose and in rich fulfillment.

Moment of Reflection: What are the areas in your life where you may need more wisdom? What changes could you make to ensure that you are living and will continue to live your best life?
