Your Word for This Day: “Wisdom for Living: “Loving”

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4

WISDOM FOR LOVING

Every one of us is in at least one type of relationship – whether a family relationship, a romantic relationship or a friendship. We connect with people on different levels and do life together in various ways. And, one of the foundational things that makes relationships flow is love.

As children of God, we are commanded to love. Luke 10: 27 reads, “He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” We are to love God with every part of ourselves and also to love people.

But, if you are honest with yourself, I’m sure that you can testify that it is not always easy to love others, especially those whom we think have hurt us.

We need wisdom to love.

Wisdom is so powerful because not only does she teach us how we should THINK about love, but she also shows us how to DO that which demonstrates love according to God’s word.

Wisdom teaches us how:

  • To pursue after love.
  • To see others as God sees them.
  • To recognize and value the benefits of loving others.
  • To forgive as we have been forgiven.
  • To allow the Holy Spirit to help us to love.
  • To choose to obey the word of God even when we don’t feel like it.

Wisdom tells us not to let love and faithfulness leave us. We must be intentional to keep them close and meditate on them. We can start by asking the Lord how to express love to others, how to touch their lives with kindness, how to add value to those we are connected to. As we ask, He will answer us and show us ways in which we can obey His word. And as we do, we in turn are blessed. We will obtain favour not just from God, but also from others as they see the love of God flowing from the inside out. Loving others is so worth it!
