A worship leader has an important role in the local church to lead God’s people in worship. As he or she magnifies Jesus, declares the word of God and obeys the promptings of the Holy Spirit, an atmosphere in which God can truly be honoured is created and there His glory is revealed.
In the Kingdom of God, we are all worshippers and leaders in our own spheres of influence.
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. (1 Peter 2:9 -10 NKJV)
In corporate worship, the saints of God join together as:
- A Chosen Generation
- A Royal Priesthood
- A Holy Nation
- God’s own Special People (a preserved possession)…
So that we can proclaim (to declare abroad, to celebrate, to make known by praising) the praises of our God who has saved us, raised us and made us joint-heirs with Christ Jesus.
Prophetic worship leading is an awesome and unique experience for both the congregant and the worship minister. Together in praise and worship, fellowship and intercession, the people of God move together towards the fullness of God’s glory, which is the inward and outward expression of Jesus Christ.
This definition aptly summarizes prophetic worship leading:
“In its basic definition, prophetic worship is speaking, singing or acting under the inspiration of the Spirit of the Lord which, in turn, shows our complete surrender in worship to Him (God).
Prophetic worship is meant to allow God’s reflection to be seen in us so that others may respond and come to know him.
Prophetic worship is a way to live life so that God’s heart, words and voice are made obvious to those around us.”
In addition to the requirements of a heart for God, holiness, willingness to serve, commitment to the Ministry and obedience to the Word of God, prophetic worship leading calls for a blend of artistic gifting, spiritual discernment, and prophetic intercession within the Worship Ministry. As each person on the team unites artistically and spiritually, we embark on a spiritual journey with our destination being in the manifest presence of God where lives are touched and changed.
And transformation is the goal!
